At the start of the season it’s all about sustainable gardening

The mild temperatures in February attract the first garden enthusiasts outside. At the start of the season, Agriculture Minister Michaela Langer-Weninger (VP) presented the focus of this year’s garden land tour at yesterday’s press conference: “Security of supply and sustainability are becoming increasingly important. Many people want to be able to provide their families with fruit and vegetables from their own garden. People are also paying more attention Biodiversity and make their contribution, for example by planting different flowers for bees.”

This year, OÖN organic gardener Karl Ploberger will again be leading the event evenings as a moderator and gardening expert: “For me, spring always begins twice a year: first on February 14th with Valentine’s Day and then on the first date of the garden land tour.” The “Nature in the Garden” ambassador has already received the first inquiries at the start of the season.

State master gardener Hannes Hofmüller presented the plants of the year for the occasion: Balcony flower 2024 is “Pinky Winky” with paper-like flowers. The blue rue, also known as the “bee gnome”, was chosen as the bee plant. The melanzani duo “Hanni and Nanni” is convincing as vegetable plant of the year.
