Ath: mixer Luc Thomas wins his first César… to his great surprise

His specialty? “Mixer. I get all the sound material. It’s up to me to make the whole thing as harmonious as possible and if possible to arouse emotions. I’m one of the very first to see the finished film”. Shadow work par excellence, he must not “not to stand out”, complete the Athois. “If we start to analyze the soundtrack of a film, I see that there is something wrong. Unless it is wanted, of course, that there are special effects, sound effects…”

The compliments which touch him, in connection with his last film, relate to the heat of the voices, the manner in which people speak. “I think that with our small participation, we manage to stir people up a bit”.

His filmography makes the big difference between animated films (“Big Foot Family”, “Royal Corgi”, “Sammy”…), the auteur cinema of Lucas Belvaux (“Des hommes”, “Chez nous”, ” Rapt!”…). Before, I mainly made films, very little TV. For the moment, the trend is reversed. At the moment, I’m a bit used to the series: “La Trêve 2”, “Public Enemy” seasons 2 and 3, “Des gens bien”, “Pandore”…”

Next Saturday, this “sound magician” may be on stage once more. He was nominated for the Magritte, a ceremony from which he has already brought back two trophies in 2014 (“Ernest et Célestine”) and 2015 (“Pas son genre”). Never two without three ?
