Attack against the Police in Cúcuta left one dead

One dead and three wounded left an armed attack once morest the uniformed men who worked in a checkpoint of the Traffic and Transport Section of the Police, in the city of Cúcuta.

According to preliminary information, the attack occurred at 11:20 pm this Friday, February 11, on the border of the Patillales and Oripaya villages, on the road that leads to the neighboring municipality of Puerto Santander.

Unknown persons approached the checkpoint and attacked public servants with grenades and rifle bursts. In the event, patrolman Francisco Javier Sánchez Murillo, 35, lost his life; three companions were injured and were taken to medical centers.

The National Director of the Police, General Jorge Vargas, lamented what happened and said: “They will not be able to intimidate us or stop operations. We maintain our offensive once morest crime. We send a message of solidarity and strength to his family.”

At the moment it has not been established which armed group perpetrated the attack. In Cúcuta, the Clan del Golfo, the Eln, the FARC dissidents and other criminal gangs dedicated to drug trafficking commit crimes.

On February 10 (one day before the aforementioned attack) a similar incident occurred in the municipality of Puerto Libertador, Córdoba. A police caravan was attacked with explosives and rifle bursts; seven uniformed they were injured.
