The Dinant criminal court granted a simple suspension of the sentence to a woman born in 1979 prosecuted for an attempted murder of her three children on March 2, 2014 in Somme-Leuze, due to the exceeding of the reasonable time limit.

On the day of the incident, the mother deliberately dropped a hairdryer in the bathtub while her three children were taking a bath. She had previously asked the 6-year-old what would happen if she dropped the device. The defendant then attempted suicide which left her in a coma for five days.

The mother confessed to the facts which she herself denounced in 2016 in a letter. “My partner at the time wanted to cover up the facts. I wanted to free my children from this secret. It was too heavy for me to bear and I wanted them to be able to express themselves,” she explained in court.
