FBI agents killed a suspected threat to assassinate President Joe Biden hours before he arrived in Utah.

Officials said FBI agents were conducting a search in Provo, south of Salt Lake City, Utah, when the shooting occurred at 6:15 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

The suspect is believed to have made threats against public figures including Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

The suspect has been identified as Craig DeLeo Robertson.

According to investigators, Robertson possesses a long-range sniper rifle and many other weapons, in addition to camouflage equipment known as the “Ghillie suit,” according to investigators quoted in court records.

The investigation documents also stated that Robertson indicated his intention to carry out a “presidential assassination” and made other threats against US Attorney General Merrick Garland and New York Attorney General Letitia James, according to official documents.

Authorities say Robertson wrote in a Facebook post in September 2022, “Time is right for a presidential assassination or two. First Joe, then Kamala!!”

In another post, Robertson described himself as a “MAGA Trumper,” meaning a supporter of Trump and his motto, “Make America Great Again.”

No further details were released about the shooting, which is under review by the FBI.

Biden is on a trip to the western United States, where he spent a day in New Mexico, speaking to workers at a factory that will produce wind towers, and is scheduled to arrive in Utah later.

On Thursday, he is expected to visit a veterans’ hospital to talk about the law that expanded privileges for them and to start a fundraising campaign for his re-election.
