The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, expressed his condolences on Wednesday on Twitter for the death of former President of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) Mikhail Gorbachev.
Mr. Gorbachev died on Tuesday evening at the age of 91. According to the Russian Central Clinical Hospital, he succumbed to a serious and long illness.
Mr. Gorbachev was born on March 2, 1931 and served as President of the USSR from March 1990 to December 1991.
