An employee, who has worked for two decades as a storekeeper at Auchan in Louvroil (Nord), was laid off on May 22 for a day for singing too loudly in the aisles of the hypermarket. The unions have called for demonstrations by singing this Tuesday, June 6 to support him.

A reason for sanction which angered the unions. An employee, who has worked for more than twenty years as a storekeeper in the beverage department at the Auchan hypermarket in the city of Louvroil (North), was laid off for a day for singing too loudly in the aisles on May 22.

The man in question has got into the habit of pushing the song, taking up the songs broadcast by the radio in the store, this during its shelving which begins at 5am. Problem: some of his colleagues have complained about the songs sung by the latter, causing them a “discomfort” sometimes pushing them to use earplugs, according to The voice of the North.

“We in no way prevent you from expressing your joy or your good humor by singing, but you must understand that the sound volume of this exteriorization is to be minimized”, explained the director of Auchan to Louvroil in the letter sent on May 22. last to the employee to notify him of his layoff.

a “ridiculous” decision for the unions

The trade unions of the Auchan group castigated the decision taken by the management of the store against the employee. “It’s completely crazy, we are swimming in delirium. I have been an industrial tribunal adviser for years, I have never seen that!”, commented Éric Dronsart, CFDT delegate, with the regional daily.

Beyond the reason for the sanction, it is the manner of carrying out the layoff of the storekeeper who has been singled out in this case.

“We are in the ridiculous, this file is completely empty, there is no factual element. Above all, the sanction was not graduated. One could have imagined a first summons, then a warning if he had reoffended. But there we lay him off bluntly when this subject has never been addressed in CSE, otherwise, we would have been the first to come to the aid of employees in suffering, ”regrets the elected CFDT Ali Boukhari.

Since this decision taken by the management of the establishment, the man concerned has been on sick leave. In order to support him in this affair, the CFDT and the CGT called for a demonstration in song this Tuesday, June 6 from 10 a.m. in front of one of the entrances to the store.
