Insiders told The Information that Apple is considering workout apps for its mixed reality devices, but that aspect couldn’t be covered until the June 2023 announcement at WWDC.

The development team is said to have even considered a collaboration with Nike for exclusive workout apps for the Vision Pro and the possibility of developing face cushions for intensive, sweaty training sessions so that the glasses don’t get dirty or damaged. It is also planned that Vision Pro users will be able to use the glasses while exercising on a stationary bike.

Apple gave a glimpse of its meditation application for the Vision Pro to a few attendees at its Worldwide Developers Conference. However, The Information indicated that Apple is also working on other wellness apps, but they have been kept under wraps. These included a yoga app that could use the device’s cameras to observe the user’s breathing.

The Vision Pro is slated to launch in early 2024, initially in the US for around $3,500.

Software developers now receive support

Meanwhile, Apple new software tools for developing apps for the Apple Vision Pro. With the VisionOS SDK, developers can leverage the capabilities of Vision Pro and VisionOS, the company said. Apple will open developer labs in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo next month to give developers the opportunity to test apps on Apple Vision Pro hardware and receive support from Apple engineers. Development teams can also sign up for developer kits that help them quickly build, enhance, and test apps directly on the Apple Vision Pro.

Starting next month, developers who have developed 3D apps and games with Unity’s authoring tools will be able to port their Unity apps to the Apple Vision Pro, Apple also announced.
