A forest fire in the Australian state of Victoria went out of control on Saturday, and authorities asked hundreds of residents in the west of the state to leave and raised the danger warning to the highest level.
The emergency warning came following the decline in the intensity of another forest fire that broke out last week, killing livestock, destroying property, and forcing more than two thousand people to leave western towns and head to the city of Ballarat, 95 kilometers west of Melbourne, the state capital.
The new fire threatens the rural town of Amphitheater, which has a population of 223 people.
The Victoria State Emergency Service said on its website: “Leaving immediately is the safest option, before conditions become too dangerous,” adding that the fire “is still out of control.”
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported on Saturday that three homes and several outbuildings were destroyed last week in a bushfire emergency in Victoria.
About a thousand firefighters, supported by more than 50 aircraft, have been fighting the fires since they broke out.
