Australian lawmaker describes Queen Elizabeth as a “colony” during oath of allegiance • Al Marsad Newspaper

Al-Marsad newspaper: Lydia Thorpe, a member of the Australian Senate, described Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II as a “colony”.

This came as she took an oath of allegiance to the Queen, who is still the ruler of Australia.

A video posted by the BBC showed Lydia Thorpe, the first Indigenous Australian senator from Victoria of Daburong, Junay and Gundatjamara descent, during the swearing-in ceremony at the Australian Parliament House.

Lydia Thorpe said she holds true loyalty to Her Majesty the “colonial”, Queen Elizabeth II.

For her part, the Speaker asked Thorpe to repeat the oath as printed on the card, which she did while raising her fist.
