Australian Open; World number one Iga Sviatek is out

Melbourne: Poland’s world number one Iga Swiatek is out of the Australian Open. Kazakhstan star and Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina defeated Sviatek and entered the quarters. The number one player’s defeat was in straight sets. Score: 6-4, 6-4.

Sviatek, the current French and US Open winner, lost following an hour and a half long match. Rybakina, the 22nd seed, will face Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in the quarters. This is the first time that Rybak has reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.

Coco Gauff is also out

America’s 18-year-old Coco Gough is also out of the Australian Open. Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia defeated Gauff in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) in the pre-quarter fight.
