Los Cabos (Mexico), February 24 (EFE).- The Australian Jordan Thompson, 40th in the world ranking, defeated the Norwegian Casper Ruud this Saturday 6-3, 7-6(4) to win the Los Cabos Tennis Open , his first title on the ATP tour.
After eliminating the German Alexander Zverev, first seed, this Friday, Thompson confirmed in the final against Ruud that he was having the best moment as a professional.
In the first set, the 29-year-old Australian showed great physical form; He hit 13 winners and won with a break in the sixth game. Ruud, 12th in the world rankings, was not bad, but he missed six break opportunities and that’s where the set went.
Ruud went out in the second set to recover the lost ground, in the second game he took advantage of four errors by Jordan and went ahead 2-0, however, he did not confirm the break.
With 80 percent of points won on his first serve, Thompson stayed level and broke the European in the seventh game. He reached tenth with his serve to close the match, but Ruud stopped him and forced a tie break.
With the score at 2-2, Thompson made a mini break on the fifth point, after which he was patient with his serve and secured his first title, which will allow him to climb eight places in the world rankings this Monday and reach 32, his best location.

Thompson and Ruud reached the final in Los Cabos, ATP 250 tournament, after defeating the first two seeds, the German Zverev and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas; This Saturday they confirmed to be the best players of the tournament, although Thompson performed more in crucial moments.
