Austria proved itself to be a charming soft power at the book fair – Michael Wurmitzer

Relaxed, personable, offbeat – this is how Austria will be remembered from the Leipzig Book Fair. So our image with our big neighbors will not change significantly – but local authors are read there with pleasure. The crowds showed that. Katja Gasser’s Guest of Honor program has given space not only to the salable but also to the remote, political, and has blown a breath of fresh air into Austria’s charm with young, female authors. It did a lot, maybe everything right. And they made a virtue out of the need to postpone it by a year and in the meantime German cities have been tilled. You dared and won! That was innovative, we can write that on our business cards and behind our ears.
