Austrian Cabaret Prize 2023 Winners Announced: Celebrating the Best in Comedy and Satire

2023-09-14 11:31:05

The winners of the “Austrian Cabaret Prize 2023” were announced on Monday. This year the main prize goes to Alex Kristan, the program prize to Christian Dolezal for his cabaret debut “Herzensschlamperei”, the sponsorship prize to the newcomer Maria Muhar and her sensational solo “Storno” and the special prize for satirical commitment for the second time to the team “Daily Press”. CONTRA congratulates all award winners and celebrates the winner of the premier class with an excerpt from his award-winning successful program “50 Shades of Schmäh”.

“The three hairdressers” are amateurs in the best sense of the word. Therefore, this highly idiosyncratic and comical Vorarlberg music-trash-cabaret trio can only afford to produce new songs, CDs and stage programs at very irregular intervals. But when they do, then with unleashed fervor and humorously uninhibited joy of playing. On Saturday (September 23rd), the far away federal capital will also be able to enjoy the rare guest performance of this band, which has been making music for 25 years: Stefan Beer, Daniel Amann and Bernhard Widerin will present their new program “Working Class Heroes”.

“Growing up in the pedestrian zones of the suburbs and rising to the Olympus of trash cabaret, the three hairdressers make no secret of the fact that they come from the gutter – on the contrary: their class pride is always noticeable! With their sleeves rolled up, they now show their solidarity with the little woman and the little man from the street and dedicate the current program to the heroes of the working class! They lend their sonorous voices to the underprivileged employees, the over-advantaged worker and the underprivileged (underpaid) street artist and unleash a movement that is making the elites’ hair stand on end “Peoples, hear the signals!”
