Austrian prizewinners: Austrian art prize stands for “diversity and excellence”

The Federal Ministry for Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport (BMKÖS) has awarded the Austrian Art Prize, which is endowed with 15,000 euros. Seven artists and collectives were awarded.

The prizes go to Ines Doujak (visual arts), Christiana Perschon (film), Lisl Sharp-Ponger (artistic photography), Margot Pilz (media art), Johannes Maria Staud (music), Thomas Stangl (literature) and Willy Puchner from Klagenfurt (Children’s and youth literature). Furthermore, the collective toxic dreams in the field of performing arts and the association Lalish in the field of cultural initiatives are awarded. ARTEC architects – Bettina Götz and Richard Manahl, who studied in Graz – receive the Hans Hollein Art Prize for architecture.

“Austrian art and culture has immense power. Artists are the driving force of a critical society and provide innovative impetus. Being awarded the art prize is more than recognition of outstanding individual achievements, the prize is representative of the diversity and excellence of contemporary Austrian artistic creation, which rightly enjoys wide international recognition and reception,” said Secretary of State for Art and Culture Andrea Mayer.
