The men’s national soccer team is Austria’s team of the year 2023. The ÖFB team won the election conducted by the sports journalists’ association Sports Media Austria (SMA) with 761 points and was awarded the prize at the Lotteries-Sporthilfe gala on Thursday in the Wiener Stadthalle NIKI awarded. Second place went to the Formula 1 world champion team Red Bull Racing (683) ahead of the synchronized swimming world champions Anna-Maria and Eirini Marina Alexandri (539).
It was the fifth victory for the red-white-red men’s selection; they had already been successful in 1978, when a team election was held for the first time, and in 1979, 1997 and 2015. For the seventh time in a row, the trophy went to a football team, after the women’s team won in 2017 and Red Bull Salzburg won five times most recently.
Ralf Rangnick’s selection is unbeaten in 2023 and on track to qualify for EURO 2024 in Germany.
