The Public Ministry (MP) reported that this Wednesday, March 20, investigators carried out the proceedings of the so-called Operation Battle against Extortions II.

At the end of the proceedings it was reported the capture of 33 people accused of extortion.

In addition, two people who are in prison were notified of accusations against them.

Investigators seized evidence that will contribute to strengthening ongoing investigations.

Among what was seized is a vehicle reported stolen, two cell phones, deposit slips and debit cards among other various documents.

The MP highlighted that integrating the two phases of the Operation Combat Against Extortion, the arrest of 95 people was reported.

Also, the proceedings made it possible to resolve 45 files of complaints filed by Guatemalans who decided not to pay extortion and filed the respective complaint so that “these criminal groups do not affect more people.”

According to the MP, with these arrests, the prosecution prevented members of criminal organizations from attacking at least 10 people.
