On Sunday afternoon, a so-called autogyro – a small aircraft with two seats – crashed into Lake Constance. The two occupants were unharmed in the accident, said a police spokesman for APA. The victims, who came from Germany, were rescued by private boats. The gyroplane, which had started in Friedrichshafen, crashed into the lake in front of the Bregenzer Achmündung in Hard.
As witnesses reported, the autogyro had “obviously descended slowly onto Lake Constance”. After the occupants climbed out of the aircraft, it sank. The autogyro is now at a depth of 35 meters and should be recovered as soon as possible, police said.
No information has yet been given about the cause of the crash. Only after the salvage are aeronautical inspections carried out by aviation experts.
The rescue operation lasted only half an hour. Water police, fire brigade and water rescue were deployed.
