The issue has been widely publicized following a Weibo post by Chinese blogger DerekTLM. He complained that the DMS installed in his car did not work correctly almost every time: the driver was constantly notified that he was distracted or fell asleep while driving during a trip with the semi-autonomous driving system turned on. Interestingly, the blogger drives XPeng, a Chinese brand car.
As it turns out, DerekTLM is not the only one experiencing difficulties interacting with the monitoring system. He was supported by both other bloggers and ordinary drivers who are denied the use of an electronic assistant by DMS due to an erroneous perception of the shape of the eyes.
