Snow slab descent on the Hühnerleitennock in the municipality of Ramingstein: 62-year-old Styrian was dragged 300 meters but was not buried. He shouldn’t have been seriously injured.

A 62-year-old winter sports enthusiast from Styria had a lucky break on Tuesday during a ski tour on the Hühnerleitennock (2182m) in the municipality of Ramingstein in Lungau. While descending from the summit in open terrain, a slab of snow came loose on the northeast slope there. The masses of snow swept the tourer away – but after around 300 meters he fortunately came to rest on the surface of the avalanche cone.

The Styrian then tried to drive down into the valley himself, but soon abandoned his attempt due to severe pain and alerted the emergency services. The police helicopter rescued the 62-year-old man and flew him into the valley. From there he was taken by rescue to the Tamsweg Clinic.
