AvtoVAZ’s subsidiary, Avtozavod St. Petersburg LLC, filed applications with Rospatent to register two variants of the trademark. The documents were received by the department on January 11, and Autonews drew attention to them.
Both versions of the trademark look like the letter X in an oval. In one case oval and the letter X are gray, and inside there is a black oval, in the other case the emblem is black and white.
The car plant’s applications say that under these trademarks they plan to produce passenger sports cars, including self-driving cars, as well as vans, trailers, engines, auto parts, accessories and other goods, such as Christmas tree decorations.
As Autonews notes, the presented trademark is similar to the emblems of several car manufacturers – a Korean company HyundaiChinese Xpeng or Chinese Chery (if you remove the top part of the AvtoVAZ emblem).
AvtoVAZ is going to introduce a new brand in 2024, under which it will produce some licensed cars, reported earlier in January, the head of the company, Maxim Sokolov. It is assumed that one of the new products will be the X-Cross 5 crossover, production of which began at the Lada plant (former Nissan plant) in St. Petersburg in June 2023.
After the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine, AvtoVAZ faced an acute shortage of foreign components, which caused it to stop work several times. Production resumed by the summer of 2022 – the company launched a line of cars in a simplified configuration with a minimum number of foreign parts. In September 2023, the United States imposed sanctions against AvtoVAZ.
