After closing for a week in September 2023, Awena, the Guipavas media library, introduced its new computer system to its users in October. “We have been working on this change for several months. In June, we started changing the identification chips: there were 55,000 works to re-equip, we took care of 23,000 before and after the week of closure, and the company we chose to implement This new system made 32,000 during the week of closure,” indicates Céline Schilling, the director.
40,000 euros spent
This new system, costing €40,000 between equipment and training, is much more efficient: “The machines are much more responsive and offer other functionalities that users will discover. If we no longer have a portico, it is not because vigilance no longer exists. On the contrary, now, if users ring the bell, we know which book has not been scanned on the machine without having to go through them all again,” explains the manager.
“It’s a system that is very open to the future,” comments Yannick Cadiou, delegated advisor for culture: within a few days, users will be able to install an application on their smartphone, with which they will be able to carry out the same operations as on automatons. Guipavas media librarians visited different establishments before selecting this system: “Currently, Guipavas is the only municipality in the Brest metropolis to be equipped with this system,” concludes Céline Schilling. This cutting-edge media library will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2024.
