French singer Axel Bauer is joining the RTBF radio network as a weekly contributor starting August 24, 2026. He will present a Monday morning segment titled A sa place
on the Classic 21 morning show Coffee on the Rocks, sharing stories from his decades-long music career.
From Cargo de Nuit to Belgian Mornings
The singer behind the 1983 hit Cargo de nuit is trading nighttime docks and boat decks for a regular spot in the Belgian radio schedule. Axel Bauer will take to the airwaves every Monday at 8:45 a.m., according to reporting from DHnet. The move places the veteran French musician into a prominent morning slot just days after the public broadcaster announced Jérémie Baise would host the 8/9 program on Vivacité.
Listeners tuning into Classic 21 will hear the artist explore the realities of a long career in music. The network announced that the weekly segment will offer the backstage view of a well-paced career, featuring stories selected from decades in the industry. As noted by the RTBF on its social networks, the artist will open the backstage areas of a well-paced career and share the most incredible anecdotes of his life each week, stretching from “Cargo de nuitto his latest album in date,
Grand 8″.
A Title That Nods to Past Work
His new radio appointment is named A sa place
, a direct reference to his 2001 duet À ma place
recorded with Zazie. La DH previously had the opportunity to meet him on the sidelines of a very energetic showcase given in the radio premises in Mons at the end of 2022, where “Cargo” and Zazie served as a visiting card.
Eight Studio Albums and Radio Roots
Bauer brings a deep musical background to his new role as a commentator. Across his discography, the author and composer has released eight studio albums. Among them is the 2022 release soirmag.lesoir.be, a project that touched on family history through his father, Franck Bauer, who served as a notable speaker for the historic Radio Londres broadcasts and the show stating that the French were speaking to the French during the Second World War. He was for a time in the relationship with the singer Nathalie Cardone, with whom he had a child.

Beyond his solo output, the guitarist has maintained a reputation as a sought-after collaborator. Recognized as a renowned guitarist often cited among the best in France, his studio and stage work has crossed paths with prominent French artists including Johnny Hallyday, Francis Cabrel, Dick Rivers, Gérard Manset, and Brigitte Fontaine.
Timing the Radio Debut with a New Album Release
The broadcaster’s announcement coincides with a broader return to the spotlight for the artist. Alongside his new radio duties, Bauer is promoting a fresh studio album titled Grand 8.
