It is the spring season of folk songs in Indian cinema. The old concept of melody is disappearing even from Malayalam cinema. A major reason for that is that our films have become more realistic. Movies depicting the lives of common people need songs to go along with it. One such song is ‘Aiyadi Maname’ from ‘Vellaripattana’ directed by Mahesh. The song has all the characteristics of Newgen songs.
Manju Warrier and Soubin Shahir have acted in the song. The song got noticed in a short time. The beautiful melody of the folk song and lively lyrics of the folk sayings have made the song ‘Ayyadi Maname’ attractive. The song is sung by Pushpavati.
About the birth of the song, the lyricist Dr. Madhu Vasudevan says: ‘Sarathkrishna, the screenwriter, told me the idea of such a song. AR Rahman’s dear disciple Sachin Shankar sang the tune. Ayyadi Maname is a folk tradition that all of us have heard since our childhood. There are only two lines in it and nothing else. I have tried to complete the old folk style in my own way by keeping the same nature of those lines and adding new lines to suit the context of the story’.
