For Babler, this is the “second best option,” as he said in “ZiB2” on Wednesday evening. He would have preferred a runoff in a recent member poll. When ORF moderator Armin Wolf commented that, according to the SPÖ statute, five percent of party members might still demand a runoff election by means of a member survey, Babler said: “The party congress is binding”. After the short survey of members – Doskozil received 33.7 of the votes, Babler 31.5 percent – there is a need for clarity, “which we have been missing in social democracy for a long time.”
