Bad news to come for Proximus customers? The operator does not rule out increasing its prices in the coming months

Proximus wants to launch an Internet offer later this year with download speeds of up to 10 Gbps, ie 10 times faster than the current maximum speed on the Belgian market. However, it will not be available to all customers at first.

Guillaume Boutin, CEO of the telecom operator, made this announcement during the presentation of the 2021 financial results. By the end of the year, the company will launch an Internet subscription with a theoretical speed of 10 Gbps for consumers and businesses. By this means, Proximus intends to show its “superiority” in terms of network, according to the French boss.

The operator, however, did not want to give further details on the offer. In any case, you will need to have an Internet connection via Proximus fiber optic. And, even with that, not all clients will be able to immediately reach that maximum speed. It requires a new router and new WiFi boosters. It is not yet known which sites will be the first to benefit from this speed.

Are the prices going to increase?

Proximus did not comment on the offer price either. “The end of 2022 is still a long way off,” we say. Especially with the current period, where inflation (and its influence on wages) and energy prices are breaking records. “This has a huge impact on Proximus’ operations,” said Guillaume Boutin. “We are working on our expenses and keeping an eye on our prices,” he added. The company does not rule out increasing the prices of certain offers in the coming months.

For those who, on the other hand, attach more importance to price than to speed, Proximus will launch a new Internet subscription on May 1: ‘Internet Essential’, at 25 euros per month, for 100 GB of volume and 50 Mbps of speed. download. The formula replaces Internet Start, which cost 27.5 euros. Customers who only have a fiber optic cable will also be able to subscribe, but they will have to wait a few more months.
