The firefighters of Liège and Huy-Waremme overwhelmed with calls and overwhelmed
The firefighters of the district of Huy-Waremme and Liège are mobilized on Sunday due to the heavy rains that fell on the region. The Hesbaye zone counted more than a hundred interventions at the end of the afternoon. Highly solicited, the firefighters act in particular on the side of Braives, Hannut, Geer, or Burdinne. Interventions which mainly concern flooded roads, uprooted trees and water infiltration in buildings. “Be careful on the roads, many roads are completely impassable. We are in crisis management and our teams are on the ground“, said the mayor of Hannut Manu Douette. The villages of Crehen, Avin, Grand-Hallet as well as Cras-Avernas are flooded and several roads have been closed to traffic.
On the side of Burdinne, it is Hannêche which is particularly affected while in Braives, the most critical points concern Ciplet, Avennes and Ville-en-Hesbaye. Same observation on the side of the Hemeco zone, where firefighters are on the front in several municipalities. In Liège, the context is less critical but the men of the fire must nevertheless intervene in various places, such as Saint-Nicolas and Grâce-Hollogne. Calls related to submerged roads and flooded homes.

Lightning strikes a building in Ressaix
Lightning struck an apartment building in Ressaix (Binche) on Sunday mid-morning. The impact caused a fire in the roof. The twenty-one residents had to be evacuated and relocated, as the building was temporarily no longer habitable, the Bincho authorities said. Some residents have been rehoused with their families. The CPAS of Binche has reserved hotel rooms for others. An inventory of the impacted building will be carried out in the coming days.
Streets of Erquelinnes under water
The province of Liège and Andenne are not the only regions to have been affected. Our local correspondent noted flooding near Erquelinnes, in Hainaut.
