Baim Wong’s iPad for IDR 1 Million: Investigation by Customs and Excise

KOMPAS.com – Acting artist Baim Wong answered about plans to sell an iPad for IDR 1 million which attracted the attention of the Customs and Excise agency to investigate.

Previously, Baim Wong’s upload about plans to sell an iPad for IDR 1 million was widely discussed on social media.

Many parties question the legality of the iPad product that Baim Wong wants to sell.

Baim Wong admitted that he was just helping with sales. He was not alone in his plans to sell the gadget.

“The first owner is the one selling, so I have my partner, my friend too, I’m just promoting,” said Baim Wong as quoted from the Intense Investigation YouTube channel, Thursday (28/12/2023).

Baim Wong argued that he had already checked every product he wanted to sell to the public.

Baim Wong said that he couldn’t be careless in selling products, especially since these products would be used directly by the public.

“I’m just looking for whether it’s true or not, I also don’t want to sell carelessly, I also look at the people who post this, post that, I’m someone who never replies,” said Baim Wong.

Previously, via his personal Instagram and TikTok accounts, Baim Wong admitted that he would sell a gadget in the form of an Apple iPad for IDR 1 million.

Baim Wong showed a number of boxes containing a number of iPads which were only wrapped in plastic.

“Who said the iPad was expensive? No. I gave it a cheap price of IDR 1 million,” said Baim Wong, via his official social media account, quoted Thursday (28/12/2023).

The price, which is far from the official price, has made the iPad exhibited by Baim Wong become a question for many parties, starting from its authenticity, customs clearance, to whether it is new or used.

However, the aftermath of the cheap iPad worth IDR 1 million that Baim Wong wanted to sell meant that the Customs and Excise agency would search for it.

This information was conveyed by the Special Staff of the Minister of Finance Yustinus Prastowo, who has coordinated with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) of the Ministry of Finance.

Customs and Excise are said to be conducting field investigations regarding this matter.
