Vienna – “I decided to no longer work as a boss, but as an artist.” With this announcement, Martin Schläpfer justified the decision on Tuesday not to extend his contract as director of the Vienna State Ballet beyond 2025. It is therefore primarily a personal decision, even if there are of course numerous reasons for this step. This also includes the lack of rehearsal infrastructure.
