Ballot boxes “on the back of a mule” from Tilcara: the 12-hour journey through the mountains to vote in four places

This Saturday August 12th the polls left the Jujuy city of Tilcara on a mule towards the places of Abra Mayo, Molulo, El Durazno and Yala Monte Carmelo. It is a 12-hour journey to guarantee the right to vote in PASO 2023.

All ballot box delivery logistics is carried out through a joint effort between the National Electoral Directorate (DINE), the political parties, represented by their attorneys, the Judiciary, represented by the National Electoral Chamber (CNE) and the 24 federal courts, the Argentine Mail and the General Electoral Command (CGE), which is in charge of security in transfers, custody of ballot boxes and in the polling places themselves.

The ballot box distribution process included more than 16 thousand vehicles that, in addition to mules, implied the use of boats and tractors to reach the most distant or inhospitable places in the country, facing the PASO on Sunday.

The total number of ballot boxes that were taken to different parts of the country were 104,532 and 2,127 ballot boxes were sent to foreign voting tables in the province of Buenos Aires.

In the province of Buenos Aires, some 38,074 ballot boxes were distributed in 6,629 establishments for the 13,115,144 qualified voters. In 484 establishments there will be tables exclusively for foreign voters.
