The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, USA was reported to have collapsed after being hit by a huge container ship on Tuesday morning. The incident happened at 1.30 am (US local time).

The Baltimore City Fire Department described the incident as a ‘major accident’. According to media reports, several vehicles fell into the river. Rescuers are searching the water for at least seven people.

The video shows the ship crashing into the pillars of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. This caused the roadway to break and fall into the water. According to the video on X, the ship can also be seen on fire.

The Singapore-flagged container ship Daly collided with a pillar of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, said the vessel’s registered owner, Grace Ocean Pvt Ltd and manager of Synergy Marine Group.

“While the exact cause of the incident is not yet known, information is being gathered,” company sources said.

Meanwhile, all lanes in both directions have been closed for traffic, officials said.

“All lanes closed in both directions for accident at I-695 Key Bridge. Traffic is being diverted,” the Maryland Transportation Authority posted on X.

Opened in 1977, the bridge spans the Patapsco River, an important hub for East Coast shipping along with the Port of Baltimore. It is named after the author of “The Star-Spangled Banner”.
