Several teenagers met Wednesday in Trois-Rivières had trouble digesting the ban on the sale of vaping products that contain flavors other than tobacco.

Several young people interviewed by TVA Nouvelles were furious to see the flavors being withdrawn, while others were already thinking of getting around the rules.
“Let’s admit, the bottles of “juice”, there are some who will make them themselves with flavor because it is done, there are others who will buy them online”, explained a teenager who was vaping near a high school in Trois-Rivières.
“It is sure that there with flavors, it was like candy, it was pleasant and attractive. Will it have a positive impact in a good way, I hope so. We are going to continue the prevention work with our students,” commented the principal of Les Pionniers secondary school, Jonathan Bradley.
If the main interested parties are already planning an alternative, it is a blow for the businesses that sell it.
For them, vaping products that contain flavor account for more than 90% of sales. They will need to be replaced with products that taste like tobacco.
“It has already been very very very difficult for businesses. There are some who have not survived just with the basic tax, so it is sure that it will be another difficult blow for inventories because these are products that we will not necessarily be able to return. explained an employee and former manager of Capt’n Vape, Albert Bordeleau.
He also fears that former smokers will return to their bad habit with cigarettes.
Quebec gives merchants 90 days to sell their merchandise. In the meantime, consultations will take place to finalize the details.
According to Statistics Canada, people under 25 represent 86% of new vapers. The government therefore wants better regulation of vaping to limit the damage.
