The single Bancomat operator will manage the ATMs.

Spuerkeess, BIL, BGL BNP Paribas, Raiffeisen, POST and ING indicated on Tuesday that they were joining forces to manage automated teller machines in Luxembourg. The establishments will entrust the management of this network to a new operator, Bancomat, they specified in a joint press release.

By 2025, this brand will replace that of partner banks on ATMs. The aim of this merger is to “guarantee proximity and access to self-service banking, thanks to an optimal and balanced distribution of ATMs throughout the territory of the Grand Duchy, in both urban and rural areas. less populated,” they explain.

Device density too high

The individual policy of each bank could currently lead to too high a density of devices in certain places, while others were neglected, it is justified, without specifying how many counters will ultimately be accessible. The country had 80 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2021, according to the latest available figures.

Bancomat will be responsible in particular for replacing the oldest counters. The new ones will be more energy efficient, offer more features and a recycling function – deposited notes will be redistributed upon withdrawals, minimizing withdrawals of funds.

Thanks to this pooling of distributor networks, customers “will benefit from the services made available by their bank throughout the country”. Each bank will continue to apply its own pricing policy.
