Bank cards: A bug causes the temporary cessation of operations

A computer failure of the national Switch caused, Wednesday between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on payment terminals and internet merchant sites, the temporary cessation of bank card transactions throughout Morocco.

According to the Center monétique interbancaire (CMI), this is a technical problem at the level of HPS Switch which allows the routing of all electronic banking operations of Moroccan bank cards.

The HPS Switch teams managed to solve the problem before the peak hour in mass retail stores. Because of this bug, no withdrawal or payment operation might be performed on electronic payment terminals. It should be noted that HPS Switch is the entity empowered to centralise, for the benefit of the domestic banking sector, the processing of all interbank electronic payment transactions at the national level.
