Bank warns of extra fraud this summer

The bank is clear that bank customers must never give their BankID to anyone. It is not something the bank’s employees ask about, and the same applies to passwords and social security numbers.

– The fraudsters pretend to be calling from SR-Bank and are so specific that the fraudsters say that they “are employed at the office on Domkirkeplassen”, says department head Marit Sola at Sparebank 1 SR-Bank in a press release.

The bank’s head office is in Stavanger.

The fraud expert says that names such as Kirsten Vik and Johanna Larsen recur, of which the former has a local dialect and the latter spoke Trønder. In addition, there are many who have been transferred to a Yngve Rolstad from Økokrim who also has a local dialect.

– This shows that the fraudsters are becoming increasingly complex and skilled. They simply adapt to the local market and unfortunately appear very credible to our customers, says Sola.

Older people aged 76 to 79 are particularly affected by these fraud attempts.

The fraud this summer particularly applies to card fraud. From January to the end of July, there have been 4,243 fraud cases, compared to 2,951 last year. This is an increase of 40 percent. Sola says that they have noticed the increase throughout the year, but that July shows a record high number of card complaints.
