Barakah stations.. Enhancing energy and reducing emissions

The UAE continues its efforts to diversify energy sources and promote economic growth, while reducing carbon emissions. In this context, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation announced the commencement of commercial operation of the three Barakah peaceful nuclear energy plants, as part of the vital Emirates Peaceful Nuclear Energy Project, which is one of the main pillars for consolidating the sustainable development process in the country under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him.
The Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Energy Project, one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UAE, carries with it many vital objectives, which enhance the economy, competitiveness and energy security, in addition to its contribution to raising the efficiency and flexibility of the electricity network in the UAE.
The operation of the third station adds to the electricity network up to 1,400 megawatts of electrical energy, which raises the total production of the first, second and third stations to 4,200 megawatts of basic load electricity around the clock. The state needs of electric energy, as there is only one station left for the full operation of the four stations of the project.
In addition to the great economic and logistical importance of the Barakah strategic project, the project plays a pivotal role in achieving Abu Dhabi’s goals related to reducing carbon emissions, as it is expected to provide up to 50% of carbon emissions in the emirate by 2025. The stations, which are the first A multi-station nuclear energy project is in operation in the Arab world, with more than 80% of the environmentally friendly electricity for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in December 2022. The project also provides huge amounts of natural gas annually, which are used in the production of electricity. Therefore, the Barakah project has become one of the most important projects. Strategic Energy Infrastructure, which leads efforts to reduce the carbon footprint by reducing millions of tons of carbon emissions.
In addition to the economic and environmental aspects, the Barakah project has other important aspects in terms of providing job opportunities, developing national competencies, and enhancing human capital, which plays the main role in any development process. The project, with its four stations, provides thousands of rewarding job opportunities for Emirati competencies within High-level technical and administrative specialties, and gives them opportunities to increase their knowledge and practical experience, and to see practical applications in a number of advanced and accurate scientific fields that were previously the preserve of a group of countries in the world.
