A year ago, on September 16 of last year to be exact, Barbara’s life changed. The lady, originally from Cheshire, ignored her dizziness and hot flashes for a long time. As she had always been in good health, she preferred to put her symptoms “aside”. Until the day she went to her GP.

After a blood test, Barbara receives a call from her practitioner. He was concerned about his white blood cell count. One word resonated: blood cancer. A week later, after further examinations, the diagnosis was made: the mother of two children suffered from chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), an unfortunately incurable disease.

She recalls to the Mirror: “You say that you will continue as usual, but from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same. I wanted to go in and have them say, “No, it was a mistake,” but they didn’t. They confirmed that it was indeed CML.”

Barbara immediately started chemotherapy by taking tablets. Although she initially struggled with the harmful side effects of such treatment, it appears to be effective. Today, his body responds well to medication. She was even able to travel to Cyprus to attend her daughter’s wedding.
