Barça formalizes the transfer of Jules Koundé

FC Barcelona formalized the transfer of French international defender Jules Koundé (23) on Thursday. The Catalan club does not specify the duration of his contract or the amount of the operation.

‘An agreement in principle with Sevilla FC has been reached for the transfer of Koundé. The transfer remains conditioned by the player’s medical examination and the signing of contracts,’ said the Catalan club in its press release, very active during this summer transfer window despite its financial difficulties.

According to the Spanish press, the amount of the operation would amount to around 50 million euros, with 10 million bonuses. Last weekend, however, an agreement seemed close between Sevilla and Chelsea for the transfer of the player. Koundé would have been seduced by the speech of FC Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez.

Since the start of the transfer window, Barça has enlisted Franck Kessié (AC Milan) and Andreas Christensen (Chelsea), who arrived free, and especially Raphinha (Leeds) and Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), recruited respectively for 70 and 50 million euros. The Catalan club have also extended the contract of Frenchman Ousmane Dembélé, who has signed until 2024.
