Mayor Gustavo Gennuso began the deed process so that Bariloche has the 1,920 hectares located on Cerro Catedral. He arranged this through a resolution that he signed before starting his vacation.

«It is simply a procedure. In recent times we have been making progress between the province and the municipality in this sense«, summarized the Chief of Staff Marcela González Abdala.

Those 1,920 hectares of Cerro Catedral were transferred to the province of Río Negro in 1986, through national law 23,251 «as a donation and intended for the construction of tourist and sports centers«. Years later, these lands were incorporated into the ejido of the Municipality of Bariloche, but the process was never completed.

In 2006, the Municipal Council approved a communication in which it requested the provincial government to carry out the transfer of ownership of the concession contract with Catedral Alta Patagonia in favor of the Municipality, as it had committed two years before.

On March 15, 2007, a provincial law authorized the provincial government to transfer free of charge – and at a charge to the Municipality of Bariloche – the surface on Cerro Catedral. Two years later, the agreement for the transfer of the Cerro Catedral area between the province of Río Negro and the Municipality of Bariloche was signed.

«The mayor at that time was Marcelo Cascón, but the deed was never completed. When we worked on the ordinance for the extension of Catedral Alta Patagonia, we began to look for antecedents and we detected that the registration had never been made,” González Abdala explained.

“They are just procedures,” he clarified. It was necessary to search for documentation and track measurements. The deed is the final step to formalize the transfer and this depends on the General Notary Office, which depends on the Ministry of Government.
