(CNN) — Barton Cowperthwaite, who starred in the 2020 Netflix ballet drama “Tiny Pretty Things,” has been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Cowperthwaite wrote about updating his health in an Instagram post this Friday, saying that he was diagnosed with “at least stage 2 glioma” and that “it’s a pretty decent-sized brain tumor.”
“The only treatment for something like this is brain surgery. Until now, the doctors are confident that they will be able to remove most of the tumor and that after a successful operation and some rehabilitation, I will be back to being me (amazing, talented, brilliant, hilarious),” she wrote.
The actor also said that he and his family were planning to see other doctors to get a second opinion, but for now, he plans to have surgery this next week.
“I will do my best to be open about the journey here,” he wrote, adding, “I am planning on making a full recovery to be better than my former glory!”
His post was accompanied by a photo of himself in a hospital gown and a couple of photos showing his brain scans.
On Saturday, Cowperthwaite said in a video posted on his Instagram account that the “lemon-sized” brain tumor was discovered in a scan he underwent after suffering “several seizures” over the past eight weeks.
He thanked his followers for their outpouring of support and said, “words cannot express my gratitude and I am simply overwhelmed.”
Cowperthwaite is a professional dancer who appeared in the singular season of “Tiny Pretty Things” when it debuted on Netflix in 2020. He also appeared in the 2016 TV movie “Center Stage: On Pointe,” the third installment of “Center Stage,” and the miniseries “Fosse/Verdon” in 2019.
The actor was scheduled to appear in the play off broadway “Lone Star,” a Vietnam War-era dark comedy written by James McClure, will hit theaters later this month.
