Fine arts in the Art Nouveau theatre
Vienna (OTS) – Graphically sensitive ink drawings of the human body, ship models in glass bottles, colourful, wanderlust-inducing mountain landscapes, abstract wooden sculptures and much more can be viewed free of charge for a weekend in the listed Art Nouveau theatre. Many of the works by the 25 self-taught Viennese artists can also be purchased on site.
More than 100 years after its construction, the Otto-Wagner-Areal is being transformed from purely medical use into a space for creativity, culture and leisure. The BASIS.KUNST.MESSE is one of the first public cultural events on the historic site south of the Steinhofgrund. Thus, in addition to the diverse art, there is also the exclusive opportunity to explore this newly emerging cultural and scientific area in the course of the tours offered. At the BASIS.KUNSTMESSE from March 23rd to 25th, walkers meet art enthusiasts and use the space for thinking, commemorating as well as for visions, rest, exchange, relaxation, curiosity, creativity and much more. In addition to the festive vernissage with live music by “SaxTon”, there is also a lecture on the subject of “NFTs and digital art production” and a workshop entitled “Drawing in Motion” from Kunst VHS.
The exhibition was curated by a five-strong women expert jury, consisting of Judith Fegerl, lecturer at the University of Applied Arts, Mo Häusler, artistic director of the painting course at the KunstVHS, and Monika Reif, former director of the VHS Alsergrund, Währing and Döbling , Nora Bachel, Viennese artist and art collector and the artist and graphic designer Ewa Kaja.
BASIS.KULTUR.WIEN is the umbrella organization for over 300 member associations and supports activities by self-taught artists of all ages as well as projects from the rich Viennese art and culture scene. The focus of its own initiatives and networking activities is on decentralized cultural work and the provision of various art and culture offers, curated and implemented independently or in collaboration, for all residents and visitors of Vienna.
