Basketball: Hakro Merlins Crailsheim dismisses coach Nikola Markovic

2023-11-14 12:47:11

The Hakro Merlins Crailsheim have caused the first coach dismissal in the current Basketball Bundesliga season. After just one win from seven games, Nikola Markovic has to leave the bottom of the table, the Finn Jussi Laakso (47) takes over the position. The Merlins announced this on Tuesday.

Apart from the opening game once morest the Rostock Seawolves (85:81), Crailsheim only suffered defeats and lost to newly promoted Rasta Vechta on Saturday (58:96). The Serb Markovic, previously assistant coach, took over the head position in mid-December.

Laakso most recently coached the Finnish top club Helsinki Seagulls and won the cup three times and the championship once (2023) with the team.

“Ultimately, the decisive factor was that we haven’t seen any development steps within the team recently,” said Ingo Enskat, Merlins’ sporting director: “Jussi has convinced us very much with his approaches to the team in the personal conversations over the last few days.”
