Bawaslu Admits It Has Only Handled 40 Incoming Election Violation Complaints – 2024-04-10 13:18:53

RI Bawaslu Commissioner Lolly Suhenti(MI)

The Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) admitted that it only received 40 percent of registered public reports of election violations.

“If you calculate the registered public report, it is 40 percent, the fulfillment of formal and material requirements. “This is of course our evaluation from two sides,” explained Indonesian Bawaslu member Lolly Suhenty, Monday (8/4).

Loly said this was a material for Bawaslu’s evaluation in the future.

Firstly, Lolly explained that his party would evaluate the supervisory staff to check whether the formal and material requirements were not fulfilled due to the lack of information submitted by the election supervisory staff.

Lolly said that in order to report an incident that is suspected of being an election violation, the public needs to submit a report with complete formal and material requirements. Bawaslu as the recipient of the report will conduct an initial study of the fulfillment of the requirements.

Second, Lolly assessed that it was difficult for the reporter to provide evidence of alleged violations as one of the material requirements for submitting the report.

“Because it is difficult because of the absence, for example, they don’t have evidence to support the fulfillment of the material requirements. “In this context, Bawaslu must use a tracing mechanism,” he said.

At the 2024 Presidential Election dispute hearing at the Constitutional Court (MK), lawyers for presidential and vice presidential candidates number 1 and 3 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD complained about Bawaslu’s response which often ignored reports of alleged violations committed by the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran camp Rakabuming Raka.
