Bayer Leverkusen reacts to Patrik Schick’s long-term absence and makes use of the transfer market. Leverkusen sign Victor Boniface from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. The center forward has signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga club.

Managing Director Sport Simon Rolfes is looking forward to the new addition: “We’ve had Victor Boniface on our radar for a long time. His appearance in a direct duel then absolutely confirmed our positive assessment. Victor is a very present center forward who is difficult to play and who poses a challenge for every defender just because of his physicality. In addition, he is also fast and technically skilled.”

Boniface was involved in 34 goals (22 goals, twelve assists) in 55 games for the Belgian runners-up last season. The 22-year-old also proved his qualities against the Werkself. In the quarter-finals of the Europa League, the Nigerian made it 1-0 at the BayArena.

Expensive transfer
Boniface is obviously not cheap. According to reports, Bayer will transfer up to 27.5 million euros, including bonus payments, to Saint-Gilloise, who signed the attacker for a comparatively meager two million euros just a year ago. In addition, the Belgians are said to have secured a resale participation of 15 percent.
