BC Lions Offensive Lineman Phillip Norman Collapses During Practice: Updates and News

BC Lions offensive lineman Phillip Norman collapsed during practice Wednesday.

The Canadian Football League (CFL) club said its athlete had “suffered a serious medical incident”.

“Phil is currently conscious and alert. He is receiving medical treatment. The rest of our activities today have been cancelled,” the organization said in a statement.

“Phil is always running and having fun. It looked like he had slipped and fallen, his offensive linemate Sukh Chung told The Province daily. I got close and it didn’t look like an accident or a fall. It looked like he had collapsed. My first reaction was to yell at the coaches and call 911. That’s what we were taught to do. They came to his aid very quickly.”

“I’m not a doctor, but it was something important when he fell. It was no easy feat,” said head coach Rick Campbell.

Norman joined the Lions in 2018 and has played 29 games on the Ambrosie circuit since. Last year, the 27-year-old American got 15 starts as a left guard.

Prior to last Thursday’s game, a 25-15 victory over the Calgary Stampeders, Norman’s name was on the injured list for one game.

The Lions return to action this Saturday when they visit the Edmonton Elks at BC Place.
