Beat the Heat: Hotels in Qatar’s Capital Cool Pools with Giant Ice Blocks

Temperatures in Qatar’s capital are currently in excess of 40 degrees. Many tourists long for a dip in the cool water. Unfortunately, because of the heat, the pools don’t promise the desired refreshment either. The hotels have come up with a creative solution for this.

A video is going viral on TikTok: A man throws giant blocks of ice into a swimming pool. The clip is from a holiday guest from Doha. The XL pieces of ice are intended to cool down the hotel pool and the swimmers.

In Dubai, business with floating blocks has been booming for some time, as the head of an ice cream factory told the afp news agency in 2020.

But the needs of hotel guests are different. Some would want to drop the temperature from 38 to just 30 degrees. Others, on the other hand, like it cooler and ask for it to be lowered to 25 degrees.
