Manipulating your own appearance via software is nothing new. However, a new filter called Bold Glamor that was published on Tiktok is now disturbing even users who have been used to the fact that screens do not necessarily reflect reality since they were young. The new generation of filters doesn’t just slap soft focus on cheeks and forehead, but also changes body features in a photorealistic way: a narrower nose, fuller lips and a stronger jaw. All of this happens in real time, even when camera angles are changed or the face is partially obscured.
