Before killing and torturing his mother and being sentenced to 30 years in prison, Laurent Badot had tried to set fire to his father’s house

Laurent Badot was sentenced last October by the Assizes of Namur to 30 years in prison for having killed and tortured his mother Myriam, in June 2020 in Andenne. He appeared this Monday before the criminal court of Namur for previous acts of attempted arson, threats, harassment and degradation of property.

The facts examined on Monday were committed in February and March 2020. They concerned Laurent Badot’s father and his companion. On February 14, he threatened the two victims, who were also harassed between February 9 and 16. On February 15, Badot destroyed the skylight of an apartment of his father, a mechanic, in order to enter the workshop. On March 6, 2020, the defendant demanded that his father repair his vehicle. As he could not do so immediately, Badot left and lit straw bales located next to his father’s stable, chaussée de Charleroi. The fire was put out in time.

The defendant confesses to the charges.

The two victims claim one euro on a provisional basis. Laurent Badot threatened them with their “break teeth“, of “make spend the worst quarter of an hour of his life” to his father or sent them a photo of a coffin with the caption “Tick, tock, tick, tock”.

Considering the defendant at “disturbing profile” as “extremely dangerous” and constituting a “serious threat to public safety”, the prosecution is asking for a prison sentence of 3 years.

Me Bruno, counsel for the defendant, pleads unity of criminal intent and asks the court not to impose a sentence additional to that of 30 years in prison imposed by the Assize Court, at the risk of “plunge Badot into despair” et “to make a beast of it”. “He is angry with the whole world, and especially with his parents.”

A filing of documents, the psychiatric expertise carried out upstream of the Assize Court and a report from the directors of the prisons attended by the defendant relating to his behavior in prison, will intervene in this file on March 13 next.
