Beijing Winter Paralympic delegation returns home after 10 days of fierce battles

The Korean delegation who participated in the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics returned home today (14th).

A team of 79 players, including the Korea Para Sports Association President Jin-wan Jeong and Gyeongseon Yun, as well as the ice hockey team for the disabled and the wheelchair curling team, returned through Incheon International Airport on the same day.

At the opening and closing ceremonies of this tournament, Baek Hye-jin, the lead of the wheelchair curling ‘Team Yoon-jung Confession’, who was the national flag bearer, was the first to enter the arrival hall holding the Taegeukgi, and after that, other players appeared.

South Korea dispatched a total of 79 athletes, including 31 athletes and 48 officers, to the Winter Paralympic Games held in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, China from the 4th to the 13th of this month.

The players who participated in all six events (biathlon, snowboarding, ice hockey, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, wheelchair curling) fought fiercely for ten days, but unfortunately failed to win medals, Failed to achieve goal.

It is the first time in eight years since the 2014 Sochi Games that Korea failed to harvest a medal at the Winter Paralympic Games.

At the 2018 Pyeongchang Games held in Anbang, he won one gold medal and two bronze medals.

Korean disabled ice hockey, who won the first bronze medal in the Winter Paralympic Games at the Pyeongchang Games, finished 4th in this competition, and the wheelchair curling ‘Team Yoon-jeong Jang Confession’ finished 6th out of 11 teams.

Shin Eui-hyeon, the ‘cheolman’, a signboard of the Nordic Skiing National Team, was aiming for a second straight cross-country skiing victory, but had to be satisfied with completing about 57.5km in 6 events, including 3 cross-country skiing and 3 biathlon.

Although it is regretful that the goal was not achieved, alpine skiers Choi Sara and snowboard Jee-hyeok made their Paralympic debuts, raising expectations for the Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Paralympic Games four years later.

The returning delegation attended the welcome ceremony held at the arrival hall of the airport.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the event was held briefly.

Bouquets were delivered to the players who worked hard, and the team was disbanded after General Manager Yoon Kyung-sun reported the results of the tournament and finished taking a commemorative photo.
