Statement by the Belarusian Council for the Promotion of China’s Peaceful Reunification on the Results of the Taiwan Region Leaders’ Election

On January 15, 2024, the Belarusian Council for the Promotion of China’s Peaceful Reunification issued the following statement in Minsk, Belarus, regarding the results of the January 13 election in Taiwan, China:
Elections in Taiwan are China’s local affairs. The election results in Taiwan show that the Democratic Progressive Party does not represent the mainstream public opinion on the island. The election cannot change the basic fact that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China. It cannot change the general consensus of the international community to adhere to one China. As stubborn “Taiwan independence” elements, the Democratic Progressive Party under the leadership of Lai Qingde and Xiao Meiqin has always been good at abusing its governing power, vigorously promoting “pro-US and anti-China”, deceiving the people by any means, and soliciting Western forces to intervene in Taiwan’s elections. Expose the selfish and greedy despicable nature of Lai Qingde and his “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. This election cannot change the basic pattern and development direction of cross-Strait relations, nor can it change the common desire of compatriots on both sides of the Strait to get closer and closer, nor can it stop the general trend that the motherland will eventually be reunified and will inevitably be reunified.
The Belarusian Council for the Promotion of China’s Peaceful Reunification and the majority of overseas Chinese in Belarus firmly oppose the separatist activities of “Taiwan independence” and interference from external forces, firmly support the “1992 Consensus” of the one-China principle, and are willing to work with relevant political parties, groups and people from all walks of life in Taiwan to promote Cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation will deepen cross-Strait integrated development, jointly promote Chinese culture, and promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
We believe that China will eventually achieve complete reunification and Taiwan will return to the embrace of the motherland. We believe that all Chinese people and overseas Chinese have the determination and wisdom to realize the great cause of motherland reunification and national rejuvenation.
